What is BCPNP?

The British Columbia is the key state of Canada. The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program provides the path to the province to get skilled and qualified skilled workers from overseas, who can meet the labour market difficulty of the province of British Columbia. The BCPNP allow the overseas workers and entrepreneurs to get permanent residency in British Columbia through different streams.

If you apply and get select in any of the streams of British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP), you will become qualified to receive Provincial Nomination from British Columbia to apply Permanent Residency in Canada through IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada).


How to apply in BCPNP?

The Skills Immigration Registration System is the new register system launched by BCPNP, in the month of January this year. It is planned to process the nomination applications received from the BCPNP candidates. It is the EOI based system like Express Entry, which provides points to the applicants and subsequently launches intervallic draws to select the applicants with best score. The key categories of SIRS system are as follows:




  • Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker
  • Skills Immigration – International Graduate
  • Express Entry B.C. – Skilled Worker
  • Express Entry B.C. – International Graduate
  • Skills Immigration – Northeast Pilot Project
  • Skills Immigration – Entry Level and Semi-Skilled
  • Express Entry British Columbia

The Express Entry stream of BC permits the eligible candidates to get precedence dispensation of both their BC PNP application and permanent residence application winning selection in the BCPNP. The express entry has this special stream of BCPNP to select candidates for BC.

Below categories can be processed via Express Entry British Columbia:

  • Skilled Worker Category: This particular category has been designed for the people who have got an eligible Canadian job offer in a skilled occupation. The overseas workers under this category are likely to have many years of experience in their respective skilled occupations.
  • Health Care Professional Category: You can apply under this category provided you have experience and eligible job offers in health care, i.e. as physician, psychiatric nurse, nurse, or allied health professionals, etc. The valid job offer needs to be obtained for one among the 11 qualifying health occupations in BC.
  • International Graduate Category: This is for the people who have done graduation from an eligible Canadian college or university in the past 2 years. A job offer needs to be acquired from an employer in BC to be eligible under this sub-category.
  • International Post-Graduate Category: This particular category has been designed for the graduates with Masters or Doctoral degrees from an eligible institution in BC in the natural, applied, or health sciences programs of study. The key advantage of this program is that No job offer is required to apply under this sub-category.
  • Entry Level and Semi-Skilled Worker Category: This group is for the workers, who are in positive entry-level or semi-skilled positions in the industries or occupations, such as, food processing, tourism/hospitality, or long-haul trucking, or those in entry-level or semi-skilled positions employed in the Northeast Development Region of British Columbia.

1) BC PNP Skills Immigration

  • Must have a job offer from an employer in British Columbia that cannot be filled by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and be either.The exception being applicants applying under the International Postgraduate group.

  • Fluency in English or French

  • Meet the BC minimum income requirement

There are 4 categories within in the Skills Immigration Category that an Applicant will file under. You will need to have an Express Entry profile.

A Skilled Worker

  • Must have job offer in skill type 0, A, and B of NOC;

A Healthcare Professional

  • Physicians, registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses and midwives

A International Graduate

  • This is for students that have graduated from a Canadian school and wish to apply to the BC PNP program.

International Post-Graduate

  • This is for students that have earned either a Master’s degree or a Doctoral Degree from an institution located within British Columbia.

A Semi-Skilled Worker in select tourism/hospitality occupations, and food processing occupations.

  • International Post-Graduates Pilot Project (ending on May 28, 2013)

  • International students who have obtained masters or doctorate degree in the natural, applied or health sciences from eligible, recognized BC institutions within the last two years may apply even if they have not obtained a job offer from a BC employer.

2) BC PNP Entrepreneur Immigration

  • Applicants must intend to establish or purchase and expand a business in BC and meet the requirements of one of the three following categories:

Applicants must have:

  • Net worth of at least CDN $600,000;

  • Investment of at least CDN $200,000 to establish the eligible business;

  • Ownership of at least 1/3 of the equity of the business; and

  • A business plan to create a minimum of 1 new job for Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents

Applicants in the Strategic Project Category must:

  • Make a minimum investment of CDN $500,000;

  • Create a minimum of 3 new jobs for Canadian citizens or PR;

  • Demonstrate that the nominee applicants are essential to the proposed business; and

  • Demonstrate that they have a record of good business practices.

Applicants in the Regional Business Category must have:

  • A business project located outside the Vancouver and the Abbotsford Metropolitan Areas;

  • A minimum net worth of CDN $400,000;

  • A minimum investment of CDN $200,000;

  • A minimum ownership of 1/3; and

  • A business plan to create a minimum of 1 new job for a Canadian citizen or PR.

  • The business must provide economic benefit to BC by contributing to:

  • Increasing the exports of goods/services;

  • Increasing value-added manufacturing, processing, or primary resource activity;

  • Increasing BC tourism;

  • Increasing research and development and technology commercialization;

  • Creating innovative approaches to traditional businesses;

  • Servicing an unserved regional market; or

  • Transferring skills, technology, and know-how to BC


2) BC PNP Tech Pilot

BC’s tech industry is growing exponentially. Therefore, British Columbia is invested in recruiting talented tech workers to fill the demand. As a result, the BC PNP Tech Pilot was introduced. It will be in effect until June 2020. Through this process the applications of tech applicants are prioritized and weekly invitations are extended to qualified applicants.
